Concert attire for each ensemble can be found in the choir handbook. Please note that if your student is not dressed appropriately, they will be asked not to perform. Men’s Chorale is required to wear black button-down dress shirts and black pants – neck ties are provided. Black flats for girls are required, no exceptions. This is standard attire for performers in a formal choir concert.
In the past, we have had problems with audience members being disruptive and districting during performances. Please keep in mind that all of the students performing have worked very hard to do their best on concert night. Our goal is to ensure that every student is successful. In order to do that, we have expectations for our audience members to follow as well. Here is a short list of reminders for attending a formal concert:
Please remain seated until the end of the program. Entering or leaving the auditorium during the performance should occur only in an emergency, and is best done during applause, or when the performers are changing positions. Please remain quiet during the performance. Things like talking, whispering, and making even small noises is very distracting to the performers and other audience members. Young children are expected to be stationary and quiet, and must be under the constant supervision of an adult. If a baby or young child is crying, please quietly exit the auditorium. Above all, turn off all cell phones, ipods, and other similar devices and put them away as a courtesy to the performers and other audience members. Please abstain from flash photography as it is distracting to the performers. Due to copyright laws, recording devices of any kind are prohibited.

MUSICAL INFORMATION AND FORMS:
The CDHS Musical for 24-25 will be My Favorite Year!
- For more musical information, see our musical page or the CDHS musical page.
Borrowed Formal-wear must be returned, clean, and in this or better condition, at the end of the school year.
GOWNS
Most of you will need to hem your gowns. The hem must be done in such a way that it can be taken out for the next renter. Do not cut off any extra fabric. It should reach the tops of your shoes and not be so long that you will step or trip on it. Folding the fabric at the bottom at least twice will make it easier to hem.
Please clean your gown after you hem it and after every time you wear it. They are gentle HAND WASH only and air dry. Please store them hanging up on hangers.
TUXES
You will receive jacket, shirt, pants, cummerbund, bow tie and tux buttons. Be careful not to lose the smaller items. These must also be returned. Cummerbunds are worn with the pleats openings facing up, literally as if they were to catch crumbs.
The white shirt may and should be washed. Ironing is highly encouraged. Black tux buttons should be removed first.
Jackets and pants MUST BE DRY CLEANED. It is suggested that shirts, pants and jackets be cleaned as soon as you receive them, and they must be cleaned before they are returned at the end of the school year. White shirts should be washed after every time you wear them.
Your pants may need to be hemmed. The hems must be done in such a way that they can be taken out for the next renter.
ACDA: American Choral Directors Association
ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization. Students at CDHS are able to compete through a certified audition process for placement in State, Eastern Division, and National Honor Choirs. ACDA Honor Choirs represent the highest level of vocal achievement. Selected honor choir students will be under the direction of the most respected choral directors in the world, in addition to refining vocal, interdependent, social, and leadership skills. Click here for more information.
PMEA: Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association
PMEA is the state-level arm of the National Association for Music Education. Students at Central Dauphin High School are offered competitive musical settings that enhance vocal performance, group/team/skills, hard work, musical development, and personal/ethical growth at District, Regional, and State Chorus. Additionally, students can audition for Vocal Jazz at the District and State levels.
District Choir: CDHS is in PMEA District 7, which is comprised of eight surrounding counties. Students who audition for district choir must master two pieces of choral repertoire and then perform them in a blind audition in the Fall. The top 20 students from each voice part are then invited to participate in the District Choir Festival, typically held in January.
Click here for the audition sign-up form.
Regional Choir: Students selected for District Choir have the opportunity to audition for Regional Choir during the District Choir festival with repertoire from the festival. The top 12 scoring students from each voice part continue to the Regional level.
All-State Choir: All students selected for Regional Choir have the opportunity to audition for All-State Choir. The audition is similar to acceptance for the Regional festival. The top six students from each voice part will be invited to be part of the All-State Choir.
